Two common questions we get here at EVgo are how drivers can pay for a charge at one of our stations and whether they need to have an EVgo account to charge with us. The good news is that there are several different ways to pay for your charging session and no, you don’t have to have an EVgo account to charge with us (but you’ll save money if you do have one!).

Here are five different ways to pay for your session at an EVgo station:

  1. EVgo app – The quick and easy way to charge at any of our stations is with the EVgo app. Simply download the app and answer a few quick questions to create your account. Once your account is set up with a payment method on file, use the app to navigate to the nearest EVgo station, plug in the correct connector for your EV, and tap in the app to start your charge.

  2. EVgo program card – Drivers can also use the EVgo program card (also known as an RFID card) to start a charge – just be sure to activate it first! After you sign up for an EVgo account using the EVgo app or the EVgo website, you’ll receive an EVgo program card in the mail. You can tap this card at any EVgo charger to initiate and pay for your charging session and your charges will be automatically billed to your account.

  3. Roaming partner card – EVgo offers partner roaming, which means you can use the EVgo app or EVgo program card to pay for a charging session at any participating partner location and vice versa. Simply power up as you normally would and billing will happen through your primary charging account (e.g., ChargePoint customers will be billed through ChargePoint and EVgo customers will be billed through EVgo). Check out more information on partner roaming

  4. EVgo Autocharge+ – If you have a vehicle that is eligible to enroll in Autocharge+, you can pay for charging automatically. With Autocharge+, you don’t have to use an app or a program card, you just plug in and power up. You can quickly enroll in Autocharge+ via the EVgo app. The good news is that most CCS-compatible vehicles can enroll, including Tesla drivers who have a CCS Combo 1 Adapter!

  5. Credit card – EV drivers without an EVgo account are welcome to charge at EVgo stations using a credit card. Simply select the connector type on the charger screen, plug the right connector into your EV and then use the credit card reader on the charger to initiate your session.* EVgo also offers Apple Pay at select stations. After connecting your EV, you can simply hold your iPhone or Apple Watch to the credit card reader until you see “Done” and a checkmark on your device screen.

Another great perk of charging with EVgo is earning rewards points toward charging credit. Any customer who has an EVgo account can earn EVgo Rewards™ when they initiate a charge with our app, the EVgo program card or Autocharge+.** We are the only public charging network that offers a rewards program.

With so many ways to pay, EVgo is making it easier and more convenient than ever to drive and charge an EV. And with 140 million people in the U.S. living within 10 miles of an EVgo charger, we’re putting range anxiety in the rearview mirror! Join us today and go farther with EVgo.

* Most EVgo stations offer a credit card reader, but not all do. If you arrive at a charger without a credit card reader, you can use one of the other ways to pay for your session by quickly creating an EVgo account in the EVgo app. The total cost of your charging session will be included on your regular credit card statement, including a $2.99 transaction fee.

** Sessions initiated via credit card or Apple Pay do not accrue rewards points. Rewards points are only available for charging sessions on the EVgo network. Roaming partner sessions are excluded.
