Former Army Captain Leads the Charge – Employee Spotlight

In addition to devoting their professional lives to expediting the adoption of electric vehicles and bettering the environment for generations to come, EVgo employees also have incredible personal stories to tell! This Veteran’s Day we are shining the EVgo headlights on Marcy Bauer an EVgo employee who has served in the armed forces. Read a bit about Marcy, then join us in saluting her and all the other women and men who have served our country.

Q. What do you do at EVgo?
A. I ensure that EVgo complies, start to finish, with all funding, partner, and property owner contracts that we sign, and I cultivate those relationships to encourage partnership extension and expansion.

Q. What do you enjoy most about working at EVgo?
A. Everything. The mission is fulfilling, the people are inspiring, the work is interesting and challenging. It really doesn’t get any better than that.

Q. Why did you choose to work with EVgo?
A. Actually, it was my time in the military that brought me to the world of fast charging. My service sparked my interest in and passion for environmental conservation. I found my life’s passion in the Army, but I had to leave the uniformed ranks to pursue it.

Q. And what compelled you to join the Army?
A. I was shy and bookish in high school and I wanted to do things that weren’t expected of me, surprise people a bit. I wanted to see the world beyond my hometown. I wanted to be more physically confident. And I wanted to go to college! So, I applied for and was awarded an ROTC scholarship allowing me to serve my country and help pay for school – a win-win!

Q. What branch of the military did you serve in, what was your rank, how long and where did you serve?
A. I served in the U.S. Army for five years, earning the rank of Captain, and serving at Fort Huachuca (AZ), Fort Hood (TX), Fort Irwin (CA), and in Kuwait.

Q. What were your responsibilities in the Army?
A. I was an intel analyst for an armored brigade, platoon leader, company executive officer, and intel battalion personnel officer.

Q. How did your service prepare you for your career with EVgo?
A. It prepared me in every way imaginable. First, it instilled various qualities that are vital for effective leadership in any sector: integrity, humility, leading by example, discipline, and empathy for and interest in different cultures and world views. Secondly, it prepared me with important skills and experiences: organizational and project management, backwards planning, communication with any audience, adaptability, teamwork, problem-solving, and experience with *the original* computerized mapping system (pre- pre- pre- ArcGIS!).

Q. What is the biggest takeaway from your time in the military?
A. I was forever changed and shaped by my time ‘in’ and I wouldn’t trade even the hardest day for anything else.
