When you charge your electric vehicle (EV), you might notice that you don’t always get the maximum charging speed advertised by either your vehicle manufacturer or the charger. You might even get different charging speeds on different days. Why is that? It's because charging an EV is a lot more like charging your phone than filling at a gas station.
Two common questions we get here at EVgo are how drivers can pay for a charge at one of our stations and whether they need to have an EVgo account to charge with us. The good news is that there are several different ways to pay for your charging session and no, you don’t have to have an EVgo account to charge with us (but you’ll save money if you do have one!).
Whew! It’s hot outside — and as temperatures rise, owners and prospective buyers of electric vehicles (EVs) might wonder how EVs perform differently than internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles in the heat. The good news? While there are some nuances to be aware of, owning an EV in hot weather is not a whole lot different than owning an ICE vehicle.
Zooming out, it’s important to know that EV batteries are a lot like people. We don’t like to be way too hot or freezing cold — and neither do batteries. Batteries have an ideal temperature range of around 60-80 degrees Fahrenheit, and if they get too far outside of that range, they’ll be less efficient — but not in a worrisome way.
